No serious discussion of improving ones career prospects can be completed without a clear discussion of the value of a resume. For many, a resume can be considered a gateway to making tremendous amounts of money.

The key here, however, is to understand that the resume is the gateway to generating a large income and not the source of the income. The source, of course, will be the job itself. It is the resume that helps open the doors for a potentially lucrative job. That is why it is helpful to have the best possible resume available since this it serves the purpose of being the first thing employers see when they wish to learn about their applicants.

One of the most basic elements of a resume is its ability to present a very clear employment history of the applicant. All previous positions that have been held will be clearly detailed. The functions that you served in the job will be presented and the length of time that you worked in the job will be available as well. Also, the career progression of the employee can be detailed with extreme clarity. For example, someone who went from trainee, to full-time employee, to junior manager, to supervisor, to executive in 5 years is most definitely someone the company thought highly of.

The duration of time an employee spent with a company also speaks highly of the person's abilities. Someone who has spent five years in a single company will look much better on paper than someone who has jumped from job to job over a two year period.

Resumes can also clearly detail a person's accomplishments through awards and accolades the person has received. That is why this information needs to be clearly presented. It definitely can make a potential employee look like a solid hiring prospect which, of course, increases the odds the person will be called in for an interview.

Resumes will also detail a person's educational background which adds an enormous amount of insight into the person's formal knowledge. For those employers looking for a certain level of education, such information proves very helpful in terms of making an interview selection.

This is why it is so important to have a professional resume produced. Yes, it can cost money to procure the services of a qualified professional but such a purchase is more akin to an investment. If you land a lucrative job offer, you will discover that the costs of the resume will be paid many times over. It is also never a wise option to risk your prospects of being hired by trying to craft a solid resume based on reading a few ''how to'' books. Skills at resume writing are developed over time via experience. That is why it is best to let a professional handle producing a resume that is intended for jobs beyond the entry level.

So, is a resume truly a money-making machine? On its own, a resume can not generate money. However, a good resume plays an important role in delivering the first proper step to landing a job that can pay a great deal of money. So, in a way, it can be considered a money-making machine when all is said and done.
