STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP PARTNER SOUGHT FOR
ENTREPRENEURIAL PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY
The American Society of Radiologic Technologists (ASRT) was founded in 1920 to serve the profession whose members perform diagnostic imaging examinations and deliver radiation treatments. One hundred and fifty-seven thousand strong, they are engaged in their professional society through 54 independently affiliated state and local societies, a House of Delegates of 168 and 22 committees. Their mission is to advance and elevate the medical imaging and radiation therapy profession and to enhance the quality and safety of patient care. ASRT delivers its value through several key programmatic areas, including continuing education, award-winning publications, research, standard-setting, state and federal advocacy and government relations, awards, career development, and a foundation providing scholarships and grants.
The CEO reports to an eight-member board of directors. They operate with a high-performance, strategic culture in partnership with the CEO, who leads a team of approximately 112 employees headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This strong, innovative partnership, in combination with a $25 million budget, $71.3 million in reserves, and $9.1 million in Foundation reserves, has allowed extraordinary results to occur, a bold future to be outlined, and stability throughout the pandemic. The Board expects the CEO to be accountable for ASRT operations and culture.
ASRT’s CEO, a former ASAE Chair of the Board, has announced his retirement, effective January 3, 2023. The Board of Directors has begun the process of seeking a partner, who can lead in a high-profile executive role that requires sophistication in visionary association leadership, entrepreneurial innovation, strategic execution, people development, and high-performance governance dynamics. In leading The Society, the Board seeks a collaborative leader with integrity, who is a transparent communicator and not easily distracted from the strategic focus.
ASRT’s most recent strategic framework was developed in 2020 and focuses on key outcomes for the profession, the professionals, and the association. The Board anticipates that the new CEO will be heavily involved in assisting them to address professional encroachment, which ultimately impacts patient safety. Relationship-building, expanding ASRT’s voice, and ensuring unwavering stakeholder trust will be essential to success.
The Board seeks a CEO, who will be fully invested in ASRT’s mission, committed to the members’ issues, and who is seeking a new professional home – not a career stepping stone. They have identified highly desirable qualities and expectations in the next CEO, which include being a people developer and relationship-builder, political savviness, a collaborative approach, sensitivity to preserving a successful Board culture, maintaining a strong CEO/staff culture, trust, communication excellence, positivity, open-mindedness, calculated risk-taking, a team mindset, openness to counsel, technologically astute, social media savvy, comfortable on video, and competent in engaging media
ASRT is committed to equal opportunity and promotes inclusion by hiring and developing a talented and diverse workforce. All qualified candidates will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, national origin, ancestry, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, protected veteran status or other characteristics protected by law.
The anticipated start date is January 4, 2023. To download the ASRT & Board Profile, Candidate Profile, Position Description, and Search Details visit   ****To apply, please forward the submission requirements no later than April 3, 2022 to ****
Residence in Albuquerque, NM is required, as is a presence in the headquarters when not traveling. (Candidates unwilling to relocate should not apply.) An advanced degree is required, with five to ten years of significant leadership experience. The Board encourages candidates with practitioner, association, and academic career backgrounds to apply and will look favorably upon Radiologic Technologist (RT) or Certified Association Executive (CAE) credentials. Previous CEO experience is preferred but not required.
