Reporting to the IP group within the Legal and Compliance Organization, this role will have the primary responsibility to support Appliedu2019s Business Units and advising its leadership team. The department environment is fast paced, challenging, collegial and collaborative. Applied is seeking an energetic team player able to provide counsel on a wide variety of IP issues. Key Responsibilities :nCounsel management and technologists of client business groups on IP matters involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks and copyrightsnAnalyze IP landscapes, perform IP risk assessments and develop IP sustainability strategiesnActively develop and manage a global patent portfolio to protect key differentiating aspects of Appliedu2019s technologies, including m anaging out s i d e counsel on patent drafting and p rosecution, i m p r oving quality, scope and litigability of patent applications and claims, and tracking patent budget and spendingnReview, draft and negotiate a broad range of IP related agreements, including non-disclosure agreements, joint development agreements, sponsored research agreements and government funding agreementsnLead and contribute to the development of business processes and policies to better enable achievement of business objectives, mitigate risk, reduce inefficiencies and improve effectivenessnCollaborate with Litigation team regarding IP procurement and enforcement strategiesnDevelop programs to protect IP and accomplish business goals; provide training to management and engineering teamsn Basic Qualifications: nJuris Doctorate (JD) from accredited law schoolnBar Admissions: U.S. (CA or other state) and USPTO Registration NumbersnB.S. in Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Chemistry or Materials Sciencen5 years of legal experience in law firm and/or in-house legal departments with a focus in the following areas:nPatent portfolio development and management in the US and foreign jurisdictions, particularly AsianDrafting and negotiation of agreements involving IP provisions, including licensing, collaboration, research and similar agreementsnKnowledge of IP law in Asian countries, including China, Korea and Taiwannn Skills and Attributes: nStrong intellectual capacity and high personal standards of excellencenStrong business and technology acumen; capacity to learn the business and technology quicklynUnderstand how to translate business needs into contract language and creatively resolve business issuesnPassionate, proactive, highly motivated self-starternAbility to work independently on a wide variety of tasks and drive resultsnAbility to prioritize and handle multiple competing tasks/projects at the same timenExcellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and ability to create specific action plans based on general guidance and deliver resultsnAbility to see the big picture and identify and design-out problems from the outset; continuous improvement mindsetnStrong customer focus, both internal and externalnAbility to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries, and with a diverse group of colleagues and internal clients in multiple countriesnAbility to lead and ability to perform as part of a teamnFlexible, personable and enjoys a dynamic corporate culturenQualificationsEducation:Doctorate DegreeSkillsCertifications:Languages:Years of Experience:10 - 15 YearsWork Experience:Additional InformationTravel:Yes, 10% of the TimeRelocation Eligible:NoApplied Materials is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
