The University needs to recruit a new President of Council from 1 August 2022. This is an opportunity to oversee the University's ambitious strategy towards its centenary year in 2026 and beyond. The President must also safeguard the governance of an organisation with a longstanding global reputation, with strengths in areas such as environmental sciences, agriculture and food, arts, and business.
The governing body, the University Council, led by the President, provides guidance and governance through the University's executive officers. The Council supports and monitors the high–level delivery of Reading's ambitions and vision to contribute to society regionally, nationally and internationally, as set out in its strategy.
Our current President, Dr Paul Preston, completes a successful term of office on 31 July 2022.
This new appointment starts on 1 August 2022, initially for a term of three years, which may then be extended.
The successful appointee is required to commit to the full–time equivalent of four days per month. We need someone who is committed and collaborative but also someone with the ability and experience to take tough decisions independently on behalf of the Council when required. You can expect to work with a group of committed, intelligent and rigorous Council members who bring deep experience from a diverse range of backgrounds and sectors, including staff and students of the University.
