Job Description

The Mechanical Systems, Externals and Nacelles (MSEN) engineering team has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a Heat Transfer Chief Engineer to lead analytical and product development strategy in the improvement of component/system life and operational capabilities of gas turbine bearing compartments, gearbox and oil/air service tubes/ducts.

Essential Responsibilities

You will be responsible for leading thermal analysis methods/strategy with a team of MSEN thermal engineers, other associated engineering disciplines, CIPT/IPT leaders and multiple commercial/military program offices.

Key focus areas will include thermal modeling methodology development for varied applications of conductive, convective and radiative heat transfer,

Use CFD-based thermal boundary conditions for higher fidelity model predictions,

Apply statistical methods to thermal analytics to increase confidence level in model predictions,

Mentor less-experienced engineers in Heat Transfer team on technical analysis approaches.

Collaborate with other technical specialists in MSEN and across P&W Engineering to identify product/process improvement goals.

Integrate design/analytics lessons learned across commercial and military engine lines and incorporate in thermal analytics process,

Update documentation of Engineering Standard Work (ESW),

Actively participate in and contribute to engineering investigations using sound fault tree and root-cause processes, working with the internal/external customer to insure that the appropriate issues are properly investigated, clearly communicate top issues and the effectiveness of the action plans to the leadership team and customers.

Education/Certifications:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering field. Non-engineering degrees (Physics, Chemistry) combined with experience in heat transfer also considered.

10 years of engineering experience in a relevant field

U.S. Citizenship required due to government contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

12 years of experience with gas turbine engines (any section); focus in conjugate heat transfer, boundary flows, oil cooling, and bearing compartment is ideal.

Proven knowledge of the range of modern thermo-fluids analytical tools used in gas turbine industry: ANSYS Classic/Workbench and Fluent/CFX.

A history of technical leadership, including the ability to guide analytical methodologies and correlations

Ability to prioritize and support multiple projects with contending priorities.

Strong organization and communication skills.

A consistent positive attitude with a strong partnership competency to quickly build positive relationships within our team and our customer.

Proficiency with MS Office Applications (MS PowerPoint, MS Excel, MS Word).
