 JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Vice President of Automation & DevSecOps to support our worldwide software engineering solutions on AWS, Azure and Ali cloud. This role will closely partner with Enterprise Architecture and Application Engineering teams to understand the biggest automation and CICD needs on Marriott's technology footprint. This VP will build a strong partnership with the Application Engineering teams to provide both strategic and in-depth automation solutions that reduces the dependencies on infrastructure through the enablement of self-service, infrastructure as code and pattern-based deployment utilizing cloud native and open-source technologies. The VP will be well versed in CICD, container strategy, automated pattern-based deployments (Platinum, Gold, Silver, etc.) and self-service through different channels that will enable the application teams to move at the speed of their choosing.

The VP should also have a solid understanding to support physical architecture on public cloud, serverless & cloud native designs, open-source technologies and micro-services-based architecture. This is a critical role for the company as we transform the core platforms and digital applications on modern PaaS and SaaS based cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a seasoned, hands-on leader with the energy and experience to lead through change. This leader is passionate about collaboration, communication clarity, purposeful process, and execution excellence and is an advocate for continuous improvement. This leader must possess the patience and skills to garner feedback from multiple application engineering teams before developing automation solutions to increase their velocity. This leader will need a strong ability to build solid long term symbiotic relationships that transverse the teams; while having a knack to push back and make arguments to improve ideas. This leader must be strategic, able to create a DevSecOps and automation vision, a strategy to implement that vision and communicate it to executive leadership of the company. Must have the polish and executive presence to present to C-level executives.

Qualifications:

BS or MS in Computer Science/Engineering or related field

12 years in technical and architectural leadership on cloud platform, automation, DevSecOps, software and cloud architecture experience, including enterprise, multi-tenant, and scalable solutions that also include:

Strong automation and problem-solving skills and ability to carry tasks and projects to completion

Demonstrated ability to propose and implement a best-in-class, scalable, enterprise automation solutions across PaaS and SaaS.

Demonstrated ability to evaluate existing development tools and formulate recommendation to provide consistency across the development team

5 years of people leadership experience; demonstrated ability to recruit, mentor, coach, and develop individual contributors and leaders

5 years project budget management

Demonstrated ability to provide timely technical support for internal and external stakeholders and customers

Track record of effectively aligning engineering practices with organizational strategy to deliver business results

Experience with major cloud hosting service providers, with focus on AWS

Experience with high-availability and disaster recovery implementations through CICD

Ability to lead the development of resilient, high-performing platforms that process significant data loads while adhering to data privacy and security practices

Experience with companies in the scalability phase of growth preferred

Project Management & Engineering Execution

Oversees and owns the physical infrastructure on cloud for the applications

Increases individual engineer’s engagement in iterative design and development process through adoption and use of SAFe (scrum and kanban) methodologies

Builds and fosters a culture of engineering excellence and accountability to produce best-in-class software solutions with a focus on team, quality, agility, trust, and timely delivery

Drives quality and consistency in engineering development principles and practices as well as delivery methods by determining and implementing best-in-class techniques and processes

Establishes KPIs and other success measurements to define success for the software development process and organizational effectiveness

Collaborates and forms partnerships with key functions and senior leaders from across the organization e.g., Product, Application Engineering, Procurement, Enterprise Architecture and Finance

Technical Strategy, Solutions Engineering and Leadership

Serves as part of the senior staff responsible for architecting new automation products to enable DevSecOps

Leads and mentor team members on DevSecOps practices

Formulates and implements the DevSecOps strategy in response to the application engineering team needs

Oversees redesign and self-service enablement of CICD platforms and tools to automate infrastructure provisioning and deployment flow.

Designs and implements pattern based (Platinum, Gold, Silver, etc.) standardized deployments using deployment pipelines

Strong understanding of container management platforms such as OpenShift, Anthos, EKS Anywhere, etc.

Deploys service mesh capabilities to support he modernization of applications from n-tier monolithic design to micro-services-based architecture

Implements best design principles / practices across CICD, Service Mesh, Containers and automation

Identifies automation opportunities to improve DevOps operations

Identify automation opportunities to improve DevSecOps operations

Partners with Enterprise Architecture to define the evolution of enterprise architecture in support of differentiated technology capabilities and designs

Considers the entire ecosystem while making decisions, from technical implications to business needs, time to market, engineering trade-offs, and more

Ability to create a clear vision and turning it into a roadmap that can be referenced, tracked and used to measure delivery success

Possesses strong technical acumen; takes a thorough but practical approach to technical design and execution of large projects

Breaks down complex technical problems and drives to the best technical decision based on high level of communication, debate, discussion within the team and with other subject matter experts

Leads the team into the next generation automation with cloud native technologies, serverless designs and microservices

Financial Management

Works closely with finance to follow financial compliance requirements

Develops and manages the software budget including headcount, consulting, software, licensing, travel and entertainment, and professional development costs

Works with HR to influence and align compensation and incentives with market and performance
