Profile

Position Summary

Innovative and high energy leader who oversees all aspects of the enterprise-wide student finance lifecycle. Rethink and transform all aspects of the function in support of the company growth and diversification strategies. Transforms and implements enhanced financial aid work processes with a “shared services” mindset to drive maximum efficiency and optimal outcomes for students. Maintains and enhances Title IV, VA, agency, and state grant compliance programs and relationships with regulatory bodies. Develops and implements new funding models to support education program diversification, increase affordability and optionality for students, and achieve company objectives around business model diversification. Oversee all aspects of the UTI tuition loan program (TLP) and other private lending programs. Partner with Admissions, Student Services, Finance, Legal and Campus Operations teams to ensure a fully integrated and collaborative approach.

Principle Accountabilities & Deliverables

Financial Aid

Provides the overall vision and leadership for the Financial Aid function; develops and executes strategies to support overall organization goals, objectives and strategies and lead transformation efforts to develop a scalable and flexible model that can be adapted as the company executes its growth and diversification strategy.

Builds partnerships and creates synergies with Admissions, Campus and Operations teams to enhance the comprehensive student experience at UTI and ensure the highest quality student experience that maximizes student start and persistence to graduation.

Identifies areas of opportunity and implements necessary changes to streamline and scale processes and functions to strengthen the student experience and improve operating metrics related to Financial Aid.

Brings to the company and identifies industry best practices and opportunities to dramatically improve quality, output, and overall performance.

Ensures staffing levels and utilization of third party services are aligned to student cycles and all employees and suppliers are highly trained and qualified.

Actively participate in programs targeted to improve retention, student satisfaction, show rates, collection activity and “at risk’ amounts..

Works in partnership with campus and operations leadership to ensure performance meets defined standards.

Maintains compliance with all federal, state and regulatory requirements.

Student Financing

Establish and refine a portfolio of innovative student funding programs aligned to industry best practices designed to provide flexibility to students to improve outcomes and achieve company goals for business diversification.

Partner with Strategy and Education teams on new program design and alignment of funding models to achieve strategic objectives around program and funding diversification.

Identify, evaluate, test and implement non-traditional education financing models that aligns students, employers and the company.

Oversight of institutional loan program(s), including lender and loan servicer selection and management, program requirement development, program/regulatory compliance, and program performance assessments.

Provide strategic oversight and ensure activities are in place to drive and monitor continuous improvement in cohort default rates, 90/10, collection rates, “at risk” balances and other key metrics.

Regulatory Compliance and Reporting

Lead efforts to perform strategic analysis of Title IV, Veteran’s Administration, Agency, State Licensing, and Accreditor regulations and disseminating pertinent information to key stakeholders and operating departments.

Provide expertise to understand and analyze key regulatory changes identifying areas of opportunity/risk; quantifying/modeling potential outcomes; and developing recommendations.

Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures related to the student aid and student lending programs to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state and regulatory requirements.

Oversee all aspects of reporting and maintaining documentation for the institution’s submission of outcome data as required by various departments and agencies.

General

Establish/maintain a high performance team of professional, motivated and engaged staff utilizing effective training, performance management and career-development activities while leading them to achieve established business results and performance metrics.

Creates high performance culture where leadership and staff are accountable for performance, outcomes and achieving organization goals.

Monitors and controls budget items for the department to achieve the planned financial results.

Recognizes and rewards employee contributions and achievements.

Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Education / Experience

Bachelor's degree in related field; MBA preferred.

Requires a combined 15 years or more of demonstrated success across consumer lending, college financial aid, consumer loan portfolio risk and student profitability management, along with development of portfolio securitization strategies, pricing and third party risk sharing practices/transactions.

Demonstrated experience working in a highly regulated environment (preferably Financial Services or Higher Education) with both state and federal regulators.

Experience leading large, multi-disciplined teams, running operations, and driving transformation programs

Demonstrated knowledge and experience managing credit and collection processes using third party collection and/or default prevention services.

Experience leading or directly engaging in multi-faceted transformation programs while also successfully executing “day-to-day” activities.

Skills

Highly developed leadership, negotiation and communication skills with ability to manage multiple diverse projects simultaneously.

Strong business acumen and understanding of business issues/impacts across multiple departments and/or functions.

Strong ability to research, interpret, and analyze federal, state, and accreditor requirements to assess risk and/or impact to institutional strategy and daily operations.

Strong analytical skills combined with the ability to think strategically and build compelling value propositions.

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills (negotiation, listening, and communication skills)

Abilities

Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday

Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday

Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday

Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.

Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.

Will require overnight travel.
