OVERVIEW AND REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
With oversight from executive finance and accounting leadership, this position is responsible for directing and overseeing all aspects of the Company’s financial statements, corporate accounting, financial controls, accounting policies, closing the books, and audits. The position also involves management and direction for general accounting, external auditing and cash management functions.
This position performs work in a centralized, corporate environment and supports multiple geographically diverse locations. This position reports to the CFO or a top administrative executive with overarching accounting and finance responsibility.

Specific tasks, responsibilities or competencies may be documented in the incumbent’s performance objectives as outlined by the incumbent’s immediate supervisor or manager.
Directs all aspects of accounting operations, overseeing all transactions related to general ledger, receivables, payables, stock options and payroll. This includes maintenance for the Company's system of accounts, books and records on all transactions and assets.
Develops and maintains all necessary accounting policies and systems, including general ledger and financial reporting. Ensures that records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. The position also maintains responsibility for providing effective financial controls for the organization, including ensuring corporate compliance with Sarbanes Oxley.
Establishes major accounting policies for the company. This includes setting forth the manner in which the organization conducts its relationship with lending institutions and the financial community.
Provides various reports, revisions and updates of reports for internal and external use. This includes but is not limited to reports that outline the Company’s financial position in the areas of income, expenses, and earnings.
Supports executive leadership with results management by overseeing and directing the coordination, preparation, and review of quarterly and annual reports; the coordination and preparation of tax schedules, returns and information; and audits and internal reviews.
Provides oversight and long-term direction to the organization’s treasury functions, including procurement, investment and management of the Company’s liquid assets.
Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
Oversees the human resource planning, selection and allocation activities and authorizes the implementation of significant plans to support the function’s HR productivity and effectiveness. This includes responsibility for authorizing the implementation for personnel activities of the team such as hiring, training, evaluating, rewarding, motivating and taking corrective action as necessary.
Maintains a level of currency in accounting practice by participating with and maintaining memberships with professional work groups, attending trainings, seminars, and other business-related conferences; and interfacing with peers.
Excellent technical knowledge of all accounting functional areas is required with a very strong understanding of GAAP and SEC and IRS reporting requirements, and solid understanding of and exposure to Sarbanes-Oxley Sections 302 and 404. This includes the ability to consider the relationship of the regulatory environment and the organization as well as the ability to apply the appropriate principles in business.
A keen awareness of trends, general direction and the regulatory environment entailed in the insurance benefits industry and the ability to consider those present and future relationships to the organization are critical. An extensive understanding of WageWorks’ business operations, products, technologies, selling strategies and internal business processes is required to perform the essential functions as described.
A high level of deductive reasoning, inductive reasoning, complex problem solving, critical thinking, and information analysis skills are essential to define problems, collect data, analyze available information and evaluate results to choose the best solution to solve problems. Must be able to make high impact decisions even at times when insufficient information is available.
Excellent organizational, leadership, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills are required to perform the functions as described. Incumbents must have the ability to navigate political arenas with ease as well as persuade and negotiate with others while projecting a professional image.
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership techniques and coordination of people and resources in finance and accounting. The ability to encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members is essential.
This position entails formal, direct supervisory responsibility for the Assistant Controller, the accounting managerial team, professional level individual contributors and support staff.
Matrixed supervisory responsibility includes the establishment, direction and follow-through for adherence to initiatives and policies and processes respective to the organization’s accounting records and cash management functions.
Some travel to field locations is required.
Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.
Must have the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time. Some bending, stooping and stretching are required. Work requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Work requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. On occasion, incumbent must be able to lift and/or move weight, such as a briefcase, package or box that weighs up to 50 pounds. Incumbent should be able to perform work at a computer terminal for extended periods in a day and function in an environment with constant interruptions. Incumbent is subject to high and frequent levels of stress.

Incumbents must have proficient skills and abilities with a personal computer and have a solid knowledge, understanding and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically with Excel and Word. Additionally, Great Plains Dynamics, Oracle 11i financials, or other enterprise resource planning software experience is strongly preferred.
A thorough knowledge and understanding of finance and accounting as normally obtained through the completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA certification or ongoing progress toward obtainment of certification is required.
The ability to effectively ensure the integrity and maintenance of the organization’s fiscal records, policies and procedures, as normally obtained through a minimum of ten to twelve years total accounting experience.
At least five or more years experience managing supervisory and professional level staff is required.
The ability to manage significant daily and weekly cash flow transactions as evidenced by proven past experience is strongly preferred. Additionally, experience participating in acquisition analyses and/or integration and/or IPO experience is also strongly preferred.
