The Assistant Vice President of Development for University Programs is a management position reporting to the Sr. Associate Vice President for Development and Principal Gifts. Working closely with the Sr. Associate Vice President, the individual is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction to the development efforts of selected university programs, including Center for the Arts, University Libraries, Corps of Cadets, Diversity and Inclusion, Graduate School, Undergraduate Education, Intercollegiate Athletics, Student Affairs and Parent Support, and Skelton 4-H Center. He/she will partner with the Sr. Associate Vice President and work with unit heads and the development officers to develop annual fundraising plans, goals, implement strategies for each management unit, monitor progress and provide periodic and annual reports and reviews. This individual reports to the Sr. Associate Vice President for Development and Principal Gifts and through the Sr. Associate Vice President for Development and Principal Gifts to the Vice President for Development and University Relations.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and experience or Master’s degree required.
Candidates must possess substantial years of demonstrated fund-raising experience and considerable years in a management-level role, preferably in an academic setting.
Candidates must demonstrate a broad knowledge of fund-raising concepts and progressive administrative experience, preferably in an academic setting.
He/she should be willing to take initiative, assume responsibility, motivate others by example, and inspire followership.
Demonstrate a proven track record of professional fund-raising success, including significant major gift and campaign experience.
The candidate should have a demonstrated record of leadership skills for motivating and managing staff and volunteers.
S/He should have the ability to provide leadership to and work collaboratively with deans, directors and colleges and also conceptualize new strategies and translate them into achievable plans.
The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (oral and writing), and project management skills.
Creativity in conceiving new strategies and translating them into achievable plans.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated fund-raising concepts and progressive administrative experience preferably in an academic setting.
Preference for proven success in building productive, long-term relationships with senior administrators, key business leaders, faculty, staff, institutional boards, volunteers, and/or donors.
Development/fundraising experience in a higher education setting preferred.
