Serves as an unclassified employee pursuant to O.R.C. Section 3301.13 and performs the following educational and/or research duties:
In coordination with the Senior Executive Director of The Center for Student Support and Education Options ensures that the Office of Community Schools and the Office of Nonpublic School Options and Parental Choice Programs effectively represent and implement a high expectation vision for student performance and parental choice across the state as defined by the State Superintendent and the Associate Superintendent for the Division of Quality Schools; ensures the offices are appropriately staffed and managed, focused on improved results, and that decisions are based on data; ensures that office activities are integrated and coordinated with other ODE offices and units; ensures that the offices maintain good external communications and relationships; manages the offices’ annual goal setting and progress monitoring process; maintains the offices’ data portfolio and promotes the use of data to assess progress and set goals; oversees setting of individual goals within each office.
Leads office leadership meetings; tracks leadership decisions and follow-up items; manages offices’ internal administrative budget; supports and assists office managers with hiring process and other parts of HR system; develops recommendations for office restructuring as opportunities arise; assists Senior Executive Director with evaluation of office directors; ensures that center policies and procedures are documented and maintained; maintains involvement on key ITO systems projects; represents the offices on the Center Directors team; serves as liaison from the offices to the budget office during budget development and advocacy; coordinates cross-agency and cross-office communications and serves on cross-agency teams as necessary; oversees cross-agency communications and collaboration efforts; participates in policy development and analysis efforts; assists in the development of policy improvement agenda; responds to the ODE Office of Legislative Affairs on legislative agenda as requested and monitors/reviews language in bills to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Oversees communications and marketing efforts for programs in the offices; oversees the identification, development and maintenance of necessary communication documents and projects; helps coordinate outreach efforts; works with the Center Senior Executive Director and ODE Office of Communications to ensure that applicable office website content is maintained and updated; ensures, as appropriate, that office staff members have current professional development plans; works with office supervisors to ensure that employees are following development plans and that supervisors are supportive of employee development.
Manages special projects as directed by the Senior Executive Director.
Master's degree and five years of administrative or supervisory experience.
Unusual Working Conditions:
Requires travel throughout State of Ohio & may require overnight stay. (Must be willing & able to secure a valid driver’s license OR supply your own transportation).
The final applicant selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to an appointment. The State will decline to extend a final offer of employment to any applicant with a verified positive test result. Also, an applicant with a positive test result will not be considered for any position with the State of Ohio for a period of one year.

The Division of Administration acts as a service entity to the entire department. Housed in the Division of Administration are the following sections: the Office of Director; Communications; Fiscal Administration; Human Resources; Information Technology Group; Legal; Legislative Affairs; Support Services; and Video Services. In September, 2007, the Department began regulating the new statewide video franchise process. The Video Service Section regulates cable television providers that have obtained video service authorization from the Director of Commerce. The Director also has the authority to investigate and enforce customer service standards.
