Make a difference in someone else’s life—and your own. At VITAS, we are guided by our four VITAS Values, the first of which is: Patients and Families come first. Putting patients and families first means a skilled and compassionate team of caregivers works together to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients with a limited time to live. Everyone on our staff is a ded
icated patient advocate, empowered to take a hands-on approach that brings compassion and caring to healthcare. We offer a variety of full-time, part-time and per-diem employment opportunities. You can choose to work day or night shifts, weekdays or weekends. With hospice programs in 51 locations in 18 states and the District of Columbia, there’s a time and place that’s right for you. Working for the nation’s leading hospice provider also offers unlimited opportunities for growth. Our senior vice president of clinical development started his VITAS career as a chaplain. Our chief operating officer joined us as a nurse. Many of our employees come to us with no hospice background, but our on-the-job training and tuition reimbursement benefit allow them to build their own successful career path in this rewarding field. Employees earn competitive salaries and have the flexibility to choose a benefits package suitable to their own needs and lifestyle.
VITAS, the nation's leading hospice provider, is currently seeking a Medical Director for our LA/Ventura Program. The Medical Director has the overall responsibility for medical direction of the care and treatment of the patients and their families rendered by the hospice interdisciplinary team. Consults with and cooperates with patient's attending physician. VITAS Innovative Hospice CareA®, a pioneer and leader in the hospice movement since 1978, is the nation s largest provider of end-of-life care. Headquartered in Miami, Florida, VITAS (pronounced VEE-tahs) operates 41 hospice programs in 16 states (California, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin). VITAS employs 9,059 professionals who care for terminally ill patients daily, primarily in the patients homes, but also in the company s 25 inpatient hospice units as well as in hospitals, nursing homes and assisted living communities/residential care facilities for the elderly. At the conclusion of the third quarter of 2006, VITAS reported an average daily census of 11,213. If, at some point, a patient needs more constant care, VITAS can provide shifts of hospice staff for a brief period to help the patient through this demanding time at home, rather than transferring the patient to a hospital. If a patient needs care beyond what can be provided at home, VITAS has special arrangements with local hospitals and other facilities where patients may receive necessary and appropriate care and return home as soon as possible. Fiscal Year 2005 Revenues were $629 million, an increase from the $531 million reported for Fiscal Year 2004.
