The Department for Juvenile Justicer is responsible for prevention programs for at-risk youth, court intake, pre-trial detention, residential placement/treatment services, probation, community aftercare/reintegration programs and youth awaiting adult placement or court. The department has three types of residential facilities across the state and averages four hundred youth in its care daily.

Must have five years experience in the practice of medicine. A master’s degree in public health will substitute for two years of experience. Must be licensed to practice medicine by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Licensure, and must be Board Certified in a specialty area of medicine. For additional information refer to: **** Post Employment: Must maintain a license to practice medicine by the Kentucky State Board of Medical Licensure for the length of employment in this classification. Must maintain Board certification in the required specialty area of medicine for the length of employment in this classification. The Medical Director is responsible for developing/implementing medical care policies for the department and recommending policy changes. Responsibilities also include reviewing medical files on juveniles to determine if non-emergency hospitalization or surgery is warranted, or outside medical attention should be sought. Additionally, duties include conducting peer review of medical charts and implementing practice agreements with nurse practitioners. The director also provides consultation to physicians, nurses and other health care providers concerning medical services to juveniles in DJJ Programs. The position directly supervises one Nurse Sevice Administrator and one Dentist.
