The Executive Director position will oversee the implementation and evaluation of all revenue producing programs and educational programs for the National Chavez Center (NCC). The Executive Director will report directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall operation of (NCC) and its staff, as well as the promotion and outreach for NCC.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLILITIES:
Responsible for overseeing payroll, licenses, permits and government compliance
Developing and carrying out strategic and operational plans
Managing and monitoring the finances and budget for NCC operations
Directing and supervising all NCC staff including employee development and training, performance management, and policy enforcement.
Developing an effective business plan for NCC
Managing and participating in project fundraising for NCC.
Plan, implement, and evaluate event-specific fund raising activities within assigned geographic area
Responsible for developing relationships with community organizations responding to publicized needs, in order to identify and develop fundraising tie-ins with organizations where the NCC receives proceeds from the events.
Builds and expands strong relationships at various levels within corporations and foundations identifying financial and program support to the NCC
Oversee coordination of exhibits, cultural and community events, and trainings
Ensure that programs are implemented efficiently and effectively
Responsible for establishing and maintaining a positive relationship with the community by networking and collaborating with other organizations.
Sales and Marketing
Providing a high degree of visibility to diverse communities by representing the NCC at the local, regional, state, national, and international level
Developing and implementing marketing and outreach plan for NCC.
Developing and strengthening partnerships with relevant groups to further the visibility of the NCC.
Serve as primary sales contact for the NCC and will oversee all sales and marketing of all meeting spaces, adhering to all guidelines of written policy.
Property Management, Grounds Keeping and Facilities
Oversee all aspects of the conference center, visitor center, memorial garden, grounds and facilities.
Oversee the operations and management of the property and ensuring that the property is fiscally sound and managed effectively and efficiently.
Oversee event coordination activities for all special events.
Responsible for overseeing events and monitoring events in accordance with standards
Overseeing and ensuring follow up with client during and after event to ensure client satisfaction.
Responsible for supervision and direction of assigned exempt, non-exempt and contract employees.
Education and Experience
Position requires a bachelor’s degree and five to seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector or related position with five years supervisory/management experience. Previous experience in education programming is required.

Position requires excellent reading, writing, and editing abilities; ability to communicate in writing or speaking with tact, diplomacy, and authority; initiative, discipline, and ability to perform under deadline pressure and set own priorities; knowledge of marketing strategies and techniques; understanding of local, regional, and national markets and demographics; good leadership and managerial skills; highly developed interpersonal skills.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
Position requires a valid class “C” driver’s license.
Exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced Director, to lead a team in managing the services that support the Mission and Vision of the National Chavez Center, located in Keene, CA (30 miles east of Bakersfield, CA). This includes the day-to-day operations of the Keene Café, the National Monument Visitor’s Center, Security, and Grounds Maintenance.
The National Chavez Center Director reports directly to the President of the Cesar Chavez Foundation. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, with 5 – 7 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with 5 years supervisory/management experience.
Previous experience in education programming is required.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Knowledge of marketing strategies; understanding of local, regional, and national markets and demographics.
Demonstrated experience in pre-event coordination and post-event client follow up.
Oversee grounds maintenance of the NCC Conference Center, Visitor’s Center, Memorial Garden, and NCC Facilities.
Strong fundraising and community outreach capabilities, as well as the ability to establish strong corporate relationships.
