Striking out on your own: Be an Entrepreneur
These days, more and more attention is being placed on the entrepreneur in society. The motivation for this is fairly obvious. Entrepreneurs consistently deliver the amazing results of generating huge revenues for themselves based on their efforts at carving out self-employed business ventures.
Whether the person is day trading, running a restaurant, or launching a home based business, the potential to become a successful entrepreneur is always there. There is also a very helpful ripple effect that derives from this. Namely, once an entrepreneur becomes successful, he/she will hire others as the business expands. As a result, entrepreneurs become the most reliable suppliers of new jobs in the industry as well. Does this mean everyone who strikes out on his/her own to become an entrepreneur is a success? Of course not; but a large percentage of them are.
One of the other benefits of being an entrepreneur is that you can be your own boss. Some individuals are much more successful working for themselves than they are when working for others. Often, the constraints of a particular office environment can hamper the individual's ability to draw a solid income. In many respects, the person may feel held back or overburdened with tasks he/she feels uncomfortable with. Such an individual will often look towards the greener pastures of entrepreneurship since this may be a much better environment for the individual's needs.
And, most importantly, the financial rewards of being an entrepreneur are the most common reason people prefer such a professional lifestyle. Imagine if you are working a job that pays a flat salary every two weeks. There is no overtime and you are often burdened with working extra hours off the clock as a requirement of your job. What happens if you are in dire need of an influx of more cash? Honestly, unless you are given a raise, you are stuck. Now, consider the position of a popular personal trainer. If he was charging $50 a session, all he would need to do is find two regular customers a week and he has the extra $100 per week. Also, the personal trainer would not be working any hours off the clock so he might not even need the extra $100! Then again, he may receive so many offers that he subcontracts his work to other trainers. In time, he is easily able to make six figures a year thanks to the expansion of his business. Yes, being an entrepreneur has many benefits. The ability to generate cash in an easier manner is definitely one of them.
It is important, however, to point out that the life of an entrepreneur is not always an easy one. During the early stages of any entrepreneurial venture, there are more lean times than there are success stories. However, those who can ride the low times, make the proper adjustments to business, and craft a workable business model will discover success to be far from elusive. Once a high level of success is achieved, the ability to earn six figures a year is highly possible.

A few years ago, I spoke with a man (now retired) who had worked in a large corporation for forty years and in his last twenty years, he basically did nothing. He was paid very well and was more or less forgotten—doing very little of anything. He would show up at the office at 9:00 a.m. each day, try to look busy—do a task now and then—and then get in his car at 5:30 p.m. each evening and dr... |
