Jobs over 100K aren't easy to acquire. Most bosses are very reluctant to pay for a lot of 100K jobs in their company. Finding 100K plus jobs usually means working your way up the corporate ladder in a company for a long time. If you're applying for a 100K job you need to have a lot of experience and schooling behind you. So if you're in a 100K job search, you should know that most of those jobs are given to people who have been already working for those companies for a long time. Engineering isn't any different.

High paying engineering jobs generally go to those who have already proved themselves in years’ past. They have already developed a great relationship with their boss and CEO, and they’ve already shown how valuable they are to the company. They receive periodic raises that eventually amount to over 100K a year. This is where most of those positions go. However, from a newcomer’s perspective, there’s still hope of landing one of these jobs.

You need to have a lot of schooling behind you. If you’re a specialist in a specific area of engineering and have a PHD, then you will most likely begin your career making over 100K a year. If you only have a bachelor’s degree, then you have to start as an entry level engineer and work your way up. Once you’ve made yourself irreplaceable to the company, then you can demand a salary of more than 100K a year. So you either need a lot of schooling or a lot of experience in the company.

Once you’ve proven yourself in a company, you need to be assertive enough to prove to your boss that you need a much bigger raise in order for you to stay on board in the company. You might need to give them an ultimatum, but hopefully, it won’t come down to that. Once the position becomes available, you need to apply yourself and make sure they know you’re serious about this position. You need to make sure they know how serious you are about getting this raise.

Engineering jobs vary depending on the kind of engineering you go into. Some fields have more schooling options than others. There are a few that are at the forefront of technology and require creative minds to invent new things. Anytime you can prove yourself with an invention or innovation, you’re in a much better position to demand over 100K in yearly salary. That’s the best way to earn such a high paying income. If you decide to stay in school and get your PHD, that’s the other way to make sure you’ll be paid over 100K a year. They won’t be easy jobs, but they’ll pay well and you’ll be well respected for working one of the higher level positions. Going in with your PHD is the best way to approach a new company and ask for such a high paying job. So be sure to stay in school long enough to get your PHD.
